New Speed Restrictions Introduced South of Nantucket
July 7, 2018

Source: Right whale sighting spurs voluntary vessel slowdown

A recent sighting of four North Atlantic right whales swimming off the coast of Massachusetts has led to federal officials putting a voluntary speed restriction in place in an area south of Nantucket through July 15th. There is also a mandatory speed restriction in place east of Nantucket, in the Great South Channel, which began April 1st and runs through July 31st. We are supportive of this new regulation but as always we strongly support making all speed restrictions mandatory and year-round in all areas.
